I began studying the viola at the age of 40 at the Conservatory of Caltanissetta, building upon my background as a self-taught violinist. Throughout this journey, I was placed under the guidance of Maestro Miriana Giardina, who was selected by the lead professor to assist with my academic training. Her guidance proved fundamental: with great dedication, she helped me refine my bowing technique, utilizing the Sevcik and Volmer methods to correct a playing style that had been hindered by a lack of structured study. Her remarkable empathy, balanced perfectly with rigorous academic standards, enabled me to tackle my first classical pieces—such as the Pepusch Sonata—with which I successfully passed the entrance exam for the preparatory course. I have been learning the violin with Miriana now for over a month. She’s a great teacher. I look forward to our weekly lessons. I appreciate her patience when it comes to teaching. I am a complete beginner with the violin. I have no music background. Miriana is so knowledgeable in music being that she learned/played in Italy. I feel very fortunate I am learning a European method. Miriana offers in-person sessions which is very functional for me. I am learning a traditional European method which is something very unique to her teachings. I am very happy at how far I have come and what I have learned. I am excited to see my progress and growth in a year and so on. I enjoy practicing on my violin and listening to my sound consistently grow better each week that I learn more from Miriana. She is an amazing instructor.
